January 16:  2:37pm: After a tough night
adjusting to our new thin air campsite, we
headed to 15,705' to restock our water
supplies. This photo was taken near that
area, and high camp can be seen in the
middle of the picture. Look for the bright
yellow amongst the rocks.

January 16:  1:37pm: After returning with
water, we rested, ate and headed back
up to this point at about 15,800'. Our new
mission was to acclimatize and explore
the chutes know as the Labyrinth, in
efforts to establish a route to the glacier.

January 16:  2:01pm: The view to the north
from about 16,079' The road leading to
Piedra Grande can be seen far below.

January 16:  Dan climbing one of the icy
chutes. Angle here was measured
between 35-50 degrees. With 50 degrees
only in spots. A fall would be bad, though,
since some of these chutes cliff out.

January 16:  2:16pm: Rob traversing some
rocks at 16,230' leading toward the final
gully to the glacier.

January 16:  2:44pm: Looking up the final
rocky approach to the Jampa Glacier and
the summit.  Taken at 5000 meters in
elevation.  The gray rocky area in the
middle of the picture was actual glacier as
recently as 1993.  Another climber we
met in Tlachichuca was nice enough to
send a picture from that trip.
