I read the the route last night. Jan 16: Leave Denver 1:10pm, Arriving Puebla, Mexico at 8:18pm. Crash at Holiday Inn Express that night. Jan 17: 9am, head back to the airport to pick the rental car. Drive 98 kilometers to Tlachichuca and hire a 4x4 taxi to Piedra Grande hut at 14,000'. Do an acclimatization ascent to 16,000' and return to camp at the Piedra Grande hut. Jan 18: First El Pico de Orizaba(18,490')540 summit bid. 4,400 vertical in 4-7hours(ascent time). Leave at midnight. If no go, move camp to 16000' and rest for summit bid on Jan 19. Jan 19: If successful on Orizaba return to Tlachichuca and make an attempt at another high summit(there are several to choose from). Jan 21: Leave Puebla at 7:05 am and get home around noon. Airfare looks like: $484/each Car: $75 each Misc: probably $150 or so. You in?? Man up. |
